So – - Where is the Outrage!?
The internet is full of Anti-MPAA rhetoric. Just like their music industry cohorts, the movie industry is busy protecting a business model that will not exist in 5 years. Worse, the MPAA is seeking to ensure that future home entertainment is delivered only through a protected/encrypted path.
Why the consumer electronics industry goes along with it is beyond me. Just short sighted one would suppose. The consumer electronics industry is just going to be a movie industry puppet.
All of this adds up to a great deal hatred for the MPAA.
MPAA and the Government Against the People
Well now the MPAA is seeking the aid of the government to ensure major studios can reach into American home and turn off the component output between the set-top box and our televisions. This is to force viewing only through the encrypted HDMI HDCP interface. As insane as it may sound the MPAA is requesting an expedited review by the FCC to protect their content from everyday citizens. The FCC is requesting public comment on the MPAA request.
If the FCC agrees with the MPAA, they will be able to issue a signal to turn off your component output (or non-encrypted hdmi).
The deadline is today June 25, 2008 and at this point there are only 546 comments to the FCC expressing opposition to the MPAA request. Out of all of the internet hot air, that is all that can be mustered.
So – Do you dislike the MPAA enough to tell your government what you think of their request to require encrypted only television? If you don’t comment you can’t complain later.
