Disney World Resort Check-in Must Deal With Airline Baggage Charges

Disney World is having to deal with the new Airlines baggage charges along with the rest of us – only from a different angle. One of the perks one received by staying at a Disney World resort hotel was the ability to check your luggage at the hotel when departing. Only a few select airlines permit such check-in – they are:

Alaska Airlines American Airlines
Continental Delta Air Lines
JetBlue Northwest
United/Ted AirTran

Of course, American Airlines is probably the biggest “trouble maker” and Disney (through its contracted vendor) must somehow address the new charge even for the first bag – a charge to be imposed starting June 15. The solution – calling the vendor, BAGS, inc., prior to departure and paying in advance.

So What is a Poor Traveler to Do?

All a resort guest needs to do is get his Visa, MasterCard, or American Express (you must use one of these cards) and call 407-285-1231 between 7am and 11pm to pay the charges before you check you baggage for the trip home.

According to the Orlando Sentinel this may not be the final solution, “Disney and Bags are considering installing payment registers at the airline check-in counters in each Disney hotel, so guests could pay their baggage fees directly. That would spare guests from having to pay the fees over the phone by credit card.” That would be a good development and a decent way to address a difficult situation.

It is unfortunate that these charges are going into place, but is a natural inflationary increase stemming from outrageous energy costs.
