Hope You Enjoyed Mission:Space, Because You’ve Been Chosen for a World Tour!
Walt Disney World has announced the winner of the grand marshal ” World Tour of Disney Parks, arguably the biggest prize in the Year of a Million Dreams sweepstakes promotion. According to the Orlando Sentinel, here the winner was 18 year old Joshua Peterson, who was tapped on the shoulder while departing Mission:Space.
The approximate value of the prize is over $45,000. He and his family will begin their trip on Wednesday.
It is surprising to see the major prize was given away so early in the promotion – it began in January 2008. The incentive for vacationers to choose Disney in the hope of winning this prize has now evaporated. There are still likely plenty of prizes to be awarded, as they issue free “fast passes,” mouse ears, and lanyards all the time. Perhaps that will be enough.
At the last annual meeting of Disney, they reported increased traffic at their parks, with perhaps the exception of Disney’s California Adventure. So maybe the need for such a promotion is not as imperative as it once was for the company.
