Review: Disney’s Best Kept Secret

The Travel Channel continues its Season of Disney series with the “Disney’s Best Kept Secret” program.   How can you take a typical timeshare pitch and make it entertaining?  The answer is —  You CAN’T!

The show follows several families, (the Lopez Family, the Coleman Family,   to demonstrate and sell the Disney Vacation Club timeshare.  Boring, boring, boring.

The Lopez family celebrates a birthday at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas (which is their “home resort”).  A home resort is the timeshare property that is purchased by the family.  In the Disney Vacation Club (DVC), points are awarded, with values that vary from property to property, that can be used to stay at any DVC property to give purchasers some flexibility and variety.

The Coleman family share their Costa Rica trip through the Adventures by Disney service.  This is a rebroadcast of a segment from “Splurge!”  The only distinguishing “feature” of this segment from the previously aired segment is that the timeshare sales pitch is televised.  One supposes this was done to show the DVC sales process is not the usual high pressure timeshare tactics.  The DVC, according to the sales pitch is a “hedge against inflation.”   Of course, so is a savings account.

The Boahene family shares their insight that the DVC is better than typical timeshares.  The flexibility pitch is favored in this segment.

The Cox family demonstrates the advantages DVC offers to large families.  The major weakness of this segment is an expert saying that a timeshare investment provides a decent return. The Beach Club resort is profiled along with all its water features.

The Dillards demonstrate how points and services can be shared among friends.

All of the Season of Disney shows are used to sell Disney Parks and services.  This one is especially deficient and is devoid of any real fun.

This is a show you can miss.  In fact, this is one to Avoid!
