Hauppauge HD PVR Supported by SageTV, Snapstream & GB-PVR

As reported in an earlier article Snapstream’s BeyondTV will support the new HD PVR.  Now, it has been confirmed that SageTV will also support the USB 2.0 device that takes full advantage of the analog hole.

According to this post SageTV CEO Mike Machado confirmed that the HD PVR will likely be supported when the device ships.  At this time there are no reports the device will be supported by Microsoft’s media center, but then again – who needs it.  Elgato is also considering support for Mac based home brew PVR.

Even more amazing is the free GB-PVR already supports the HD-PVR according to the release notes for the latest version.  So, for those who don’t already own BeyondTV or SageTV – a free PC PVR program is available for use as soon as it ships.  If linux MythTV eventually supports the device, it will become the technology of choice for home HD video capture.

There seems to be a great deal of excitement surrounding the introduction of the HD PVR.  The device is designed to take component analog signals and convert them to H.264 AVCHD format files.  It can accept digital audio input with loop through connections for both the audio and the YCrCb analog video – allowing you to watch shows on your HDTV.  The product just wouldn’t appeal as much if viewing of the HD programming was limited to the computer monitor.

The HD PVR will ship with a remote control and an IR input/blaster to control the source HD set top box.  Its available for pre-order now with an expected shipping date of May 1, 2008.  When it ships look for a review here.
