That Flu You Caught? It Came from East and Southeast Asia

Scientific American reports that the seasonal flus that hit the planet generally originate from Asia. Unfortunately, many Asian countries simply do not share an ethic of good hygiene. They live in close quarters with their fowl and pigs. Viruses easily pass between the birds and pigs. Then, because pigs’ bodies utilize many of the same proteins found in the human body, a modified virus can then spread to the human population. Of course, the close quarters in which many Asians live leads to epidemic-like spread of the flu.

Just as bad a human virus can be transmitted to a pig, where the virus mutates, to reinfect humans with perhaps much greater affect.

Just plain NASTY.
