Nero Announces LiquidTV with Tivo software on the PC

Nero has partnered with Tivo to bring time-shifting to the PC.  According to Nero’s press release “Nero LiquidTV™ | TiVo® PC: Working in close partnership with TiVo®, Nero has merged the TV and PC to give consumers the same TV experience on their PCs and portable devices that they enjoy in their living rooms. Nero LiquidTV | TiVo PC is TiVo content on any device, allowing users to share the TiVo experience throughout their digital home, as well as while on the road.”

PC Magazine already has a hands-on review of LiquidTV here.  How that happened I don’t know.  But they are only moderately impressed.

Outrageous

Interestingly, the WSJ reports for people who already have a tuner-equipped PC, Nero – will sell the TV-recording software separately, for $99. “Either way, buyers will get a one-year subscription to TiVo’s program guide updates. Renewal will cost $99 per year.”

This is entirely unacceptable – they are charging $99 for a TV guide.  There is not even a lifetime subscription option.

BeyondTV is the way to go for PC PVR software. No charge for the guide once the program is purchased.   In addition, BeyondTV has options for Media Center-like functions.

Its a shame Tivo and Nero didn’t do something more customer friendly.
